Schumacher | There's A Long Way To Go

SS

Head Coach Steven Schumacher is “really looking forward” to Saturday’s home fixture against Wycombe Wanderers at the Toughsheet Community Stadium as the Whites aim to maintain their impressive unbeaten run of 10 games.

Following last weekend's emphatic five-star victory away at Exeter City, Wanderers return to home turf to take on Michael Duff’s in-form Chairboys, who have won their last three matches in Sky Bet League One.

The Wanderers boss has been pleased with the togetherness of his squad, and he is relishing the upcoming clash when Wycombe visit BL6.

Schumacher told Wanderers TV: “Every game is difficult in this league. Wycombe are doing really well, they’ve got themselves into the top six, I went to watch them on Tuesday night at Barnsley and they controlled that game, they probably should have won it by more than one.

“They have got some good players, none more so than Aaron (Morley) who we know really well, they’re in good form and they will be coming here with confidence.

“They will know that we are in good form, we’re unbeaten in 10 and we’re playing well too, so it should be a good game and I’m really looking forward to it.

“Having that togetherness and that overall collective sort of goal of trying to win games is going to be massive.

“The league is so tight, there will be loads of games where there is something on it, we know it will be a tough game. Wycombe are there on merit, they’ve been consistent and have been playing well, they’ve won their last three, so we go into it knowing it’s a challenge but it’s a challenge that if we prepare properly for, we’ll be ready.

With the Whites well-placed in the table ahead of the run-in, Schumacher says that they must only focus on themselves.

He continued:“Eleven games is a long time, anything can happen. There’s bound to be twists and turns when the pressure comes on towards the end, and we just need to make sure that we can be as consistent as we can be.

“We can only control what we can control, so we’ll focus on ourselves, try and win the next game, try and get our performances levels right, keep that energy and excitement in the crowd and see where it takes us.”

It has been a positive week in training at Lostock, with Schumacher able to select from a near fully fit squad.

John McAtee is edging closer to fitness whilst Amario Cozier-Duberry was back on the grass running for the first time since his knee injury.

Schumacher added: “There’s no fresh injury concerns, we’ve still only got Marcus (Forss) who is long-term, a bit of positive news that Amario (Cozier-Duberry) is training with the fitness coaches on the grass, he was straight line running, John McAtee was running with the physios so the plan will be for him to be back involved with the squad on Monday, so it’s positive news.

“It’s a fully fit squad pretty much to choose from.”
