Steven Schumacher wants his Wanderers side to build on Saturday's Derby Day demolition of Wigan Athletic when facing Manchester City U21s in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday evening.
The Whites ran out convincing 4-1 winners last weekend over the Latics, with Thierry Gale, Mason Burstow and a Marcus Forss brace sealing an emphatic victory in front of over 25,000 supporters at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
It was a statement victory for Schumacher's men, with the Head Coach wanting to build on the feel-good factor and form - unbeaten in eight games now - as they take on City's U21s on Tuesday.
"The atmosphere's been good today (Monday)," he said.
"But it usually is, to be honest. But it's one of those moments in which we've had a good result over the weekend against a team that we wanted to beat. So it was good, it was positive, but we've gone through the same process as we always do.
"We analysed it and then spoke about it, went out and trained and got straight on to the next game, which comes around really quickly against City. We're looking forward to it."
Looking back to the Wigan victory, Schumacher was pleased in the ruthless nature of his side - something he believes they have been threatening to do in recent performances without reward - with three goals inside the first half to push the game away from Wigan to secure the points.
"We were clinical on Saturday, but I still think there is more to come from us," he said.
"The opportunities that we got and the finishes in the first half were excellent. We had two or three other big moments in the first half where we got in and the keeper just smothered it or it didn't quite work for us, but we were definitely threatening in the first 45 minutes - and we killed the game off with our first chance of the second half.
"I would have liked to have had a little bit more control. After that fourth goal, it got a little bit scrappy for a few minutes and Wigan got themselves a nice goal. But we came back into it late on and controlled the game again, so there are still things to improve on but it was a good performance and a good three points."
Wanderers come up against a youthful City side that boast a win already in the Vertu Trophy with a 5-1 victory at Boundary Park last month - something that is not lost on Wanderers' Head Coach as he looks to pick a side that will claim another victory following the opening Group Stage win over Rotherham earlier this month.
"It'll be a tough game," Schumacher added.
"These under-21 teams cause you a problem because there's a little bit of the unknown. You don't know the individuals inside out in terms of what they do. But what we can pretty much guarantee with City is that they're all going to be good players, so we have to be mindful of what they're going to try and do with the ball, whilst trying to hurt them when we have it.
"We have to make sure that we're fully professional and we're at it because we want to continue our momentum. We're building something here and especially at home - we've been strong.
"So, we'll be strong tomorrow. What I will say, we'll be an experienced team. We've got players who need to play minutes, we've got players who are coming back from injury and trying to get up to full speed, as well as lads who need to play. So, hopefully we can perform well and get another win."
