Head Coach Steven Schumacher anticipates a difficult test ahead of Saturday afternoon’s visit to Wycombe Wanderers, but he is confident that the Whites can continue their positive current form.
Following back-to-back wins in Sky Bet League One against Mansfield Town and Exeter City which lifted them up to fourth, Wanderers face an away trip to Buckinghamshire for their final game before Christmas, where Michael Duff’s Chairboys await.
Previewing the game to Wanderers TV, Schumacher said: “The performances at home and the results have been really good, but first and foremost we go away to Wycombe on Saturday which is going to be another difficult game.
“They have got good players that can cause you a problem, they play a slightly different style to what we would have seen from Wycombe over the last few years, so it’s a different test for us and we’re looking forward to it.
“Our form has been pretty consistent over the last few months anyway, so we’ll stick to the plan and try to go there and get a result.
“It’s just another League One game, it will be a difficult test, Mike (Duff) has gone in there and continued to get good results. The way that they play is slightly different, they play more passes through the third whereas Wycombe over the last few years have been really direct, so we have to be ready for that.
“We’ve seen different styles of play from loads of different teams this year and our performances have been quite consistent, so that will be the message to the lads.
“We’ll stick to the plan and try to get another one.
“We’ve found a way to get over the line and the players have adapted, so the message is do the basics well enough and be able to try and adapt tactically and we’ll be fine.”
It has been another productive week at Wanderers’ Lostock training base, and Schumacher knows that he can utilise his squad ahead of the busy festive period.
He added: “We believe in the squad this year, we think we’ve got good strength in depth, good competition for places and we want that to continue.
“We’ve proven that so far in the first 19 games and we very rarely play the same starting 11 in back-to-back games and that shows that we believe that there’s certain games that suit certain styles of player and if we get the decisions right, then we have a better chance to win.
“The group understand that, especially with how strong it is, whoever we pick to start the games is more than capable, and the players that we’ve got to come off the bench can give us an impact to change the game or see games out.”
