Senior Quartet Leave As Retained List Confirmed

George Johnston, Kyle Dempsey and Jordi Osei-Tutu are to end their time at Wanderers as they leave the club as free agents this summer.

The trio have not been offered new contracts and will be released along with Carlos Mendes Gomes – who spent the majority of the 2025/26 season on loan at Exeter City – from the first-team squad.

Loan players Johnny Kenny, Rob Apter, Ibrahim Cissoko, Marcus Forss, Corey Blackett-Taylor, Mason Burstow and Amario Cozier-Duberry have all returned to their parent clubs after helping Steven Schumacher’s side win promotion from League One.

Johnston departs as Wanderers’ longest serving senior player, having signed a few days before Josh Sheehan in June, 2021 after a spell in the Netherlands with Feyenoord followed the start of his career at Liverpool.

The defender, 27, has since made 188 appearances for the Whites, with his last game Sunday’s League One play-off final win when he captained Schumacher’s side to promotion success.

Dempsey joined Wanderers from Gillingham at the end of the January, 2022 transfer window and played 161 times for the club, scoring 17 times.

The midfielder’s finest hour for Wanderers arguably came at Wembley in the final of the EFL Trophy in April, 2023 when his goal-scoring and Player of the Match performance was the catalyst for the Whites lifting the cup.

The 30-year-old was on the bench for Sunday’s Wembley success over Stockport County after, like Johnston, helping Wanderers to three play-off finishes in League One before leaving with the club’s place back in the Championship secured.

Osei-Tutu also ended his two-year Wanderers’ stay on a winning note at Wembley as the Whites begin preparations for life at a higher level.

The right-back made 80 appearances for the Whites after signing from German club Bochum in August, 2024 and leaves after securing a second promotion from League One following an earlier success on loan at Rotherham.

Wanderers would like to thank Osei-Tutu, Johnston and Dempsey for their significant contribution during their time at the club – as well as those who have featured prominently as loan players during this landmark season – and wish them and all the departing players further success in the future.

Within the Academy set-up, new contract offers have been made to teenage defenders Jamie Grayson and Ollie Smith, while Mark Isong, Sean Hogan, Jack Dallimore and Tomi Adesina have been released from the U21s.
