Midfielder Josh Sheehan has been selected by Wales to make it a hat-trick of international call-ups for the Whites.
Sheehan’s inclusion in the Welsh squad for a World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan and a friendly at home to Canada follows Northern Ireland call-ups for Wanderers’ defenders Eoin Toal and Sam Inwood.
Toal is named in the senior squad for World Cup qualifiers away to Luxembourg and Germany, while teenager Inwood has been included in Northern Ireland’s U21 squad for a European U21 qualifier in Georgia.
Inwood’s unavailability following just one senior appearance in the Carabao Cup this season doesn’t count towards the criteria required for Wanderers to postpone their League One fixture at home to AFC Wimbledon, which is scheduled to go ahead as planned on Saturday 6th September.
Sheehan and Wanderers’ captain Toal would miss the visit of the Dons, with Toal named in a 26-man squad for the start of Northern Ireland’s World Cup qualifying campaign in Luxembourg on Thursday, 4th September and against Germany in Koln on Sunday, 7th September.
Toal – who has missed his country’s last two international camps – will be hoping to add to his eight full caps.
Wales, meanwhile, have already played four games in Group J and could move to the top of the group with a win in Astana on their first ever trip to Kazakhstan on Thursday, 4th September.
Craig Bellamy’s side then faces 2026 World Cup co-hosts Canada in a friendly in Swansea on Tuesday, 9th September, with Sheehan hoping to add to his 13 caps for his country over the next couple of weeks.
