Wanderers’ club legend John McGinlay today helped kick off March of the Day III as he continues to support the fight against MND.

‘Super John’ joined a team taking part in the annual charity walk in support of the Darby Rimmer Foundation and the Leeds Hospital Charity.

Football and rugby league stars have come together to raise awareness and funds to try and combat the devastating effects of the currently incurable Motor Neurone Disease (MND) which has hit so many members of the sporting community – including former Wanderers’ player Stephen Darby and, more recently, late Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow.

This year’s walk is the longest yet, covering around 350 miles between 1-6 June and taking in visits to over 50 football and rugby league grounds across the north.

John, a regular supporter of the event alongside some of his former playing contemporaries and colleagues, will be taking part in the first three days of the journey across the north-west, which includes a stop-off at Wanderers’ Toughsheet Community Stadium early tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

“It’s always a tough few days but an event I’m so pleased to be able to support to do what we can to help some incredible individuals and the wider fight to try and combat a cruel disease which has sadly struck so many in sport and beyond,” said the former Wanderers’ goalscorer and current club ambassador before setting off from Merseyside on Monday morning.
