Thomason | We're In A Good Place

George Thomason believes Wanderers are in a good place as they close in on the big kick-off.

The Whites have two pre-season games to go before they launch their League One campaign at Leyton Orient on Saturday-week.

The first of those is at home to Stoke City tomorrow night (Tuesday) when Ian Evatt’s men will be looking to build on a highly impressive performance in last Friday night’s 1-1 draw against Italian top-flight side Fiorentina.

“It's pre-season, but everyone who was here will see that wasn't a typical pre-season game,” said Thomason, who produced an outstanding midfield performance alongside central partner Josh Sheehan against last season's Europa Conference Leaguew finalists.

“It was two teams going right after it, trying new things, experimenting and being really competitive. There was everything thrown out there, so it was a really good result and a really good performance.

“It was a good game and really enjoyable. Relationships are building all the time, working on the new system and there are a lot of positives around the camp.

“The boys are in a good place. We're just on that fine tuning now and we want to keep boys fresh and fit and ready to go. It was just good to be out there, fit, healthy and competitive and put out a good version of ourselves against a good opposition.”

Wanderers are still actively trying to strengthen their squad in the current transfer window and are also waiting for a number of players to return from injury.

But with the visit of Stoke and a trip to Port Vale on Saturday to come before the real thing starts, they look to be progressing nicely and adapting well to a line-up re-modelled to incorporate two central midfield players behind a fluid front three.

“We're working on new things in and out of possession,” Thomason told Wanderers TV.  “There’s a slight tweak in formation and I think it's something everyone should get really excited about.

“I'm certainly excited learning about this role and learning about what the gaffer wants and everyone's getting on board with it.

“There's lots of positivity around the camp and we're in a good place. We’re putting the finishing details on the ideas the manager has brought in over the summer.

“As much as you get the benefits of pre-season and want to get through the games and stay fit and healthy, and put in good performances, as soon as the beginning of August kicks in and that first game is coming round it's ‘go’ time and that's the best time.

“It's going to be a long season. There are going to be ups and downs and it's going to be a real roller-coaster but I'm buzzing for it and I think everyone else should be.”
