Toal Steps Up Return

Toal Breda warm-up

Club captain Eoin Toal stepped up his comeback as the Whites gave game time to a number of senior players in a training-ground game against Everton’s U21s.

Toal added to his 15-minute run-out in last Saturday’s friendly win over NAC Breda with a full first half of the game at Lostock which the Toffees’ youngsters won 4-2.

Recent arrival Gaizka Larrazabal also got 45 minutes of action under his belt as the right-back steps up his fitness as the season approaches.

Cyrus Christie was on target for the Whites when he headed in a Max Conway cross to make it 1-1 at the break, with David Watson driving home Wanderers’ second with a sweet strike when the score was 3-1 to the visitors.

Kyliane Dong, John McAtee, Charlie Warren and Joel Randall also featured from the start before Wanderers introduced a number of trialists and players from the Under-21s in the second half.

Marcus Forss went closest to a second goal for Wanderers in a useful work-out ahead of Saturday’s Carabao Cup opener at Sheffield Wednesday and a further week’s training in the run-up to the Championship campaign.

Toal’s appearance was only his second piece of pre-season action after picking up a hamstring injury in last season’s play-off semi-finals and was one of the plus-points of a game that brought goals for Everton youngsters Ceiran Loney, Harry Brookes, Joel Catseby and Amari Moses.
