Wanderers extended their lead at the top of the Professional Development League table with a resounding win in South London, writes Simon Marland.
Julian Darby’s side overcame travel issues and a delayed kick-off to extend their 100 per cent record with a fourth successive victory.
Millwall started the brighter and Luke Lomax made a great save in a one-on-one situation to deny a trialist and keep the scores level.
Wanderers then got hold of the game at Millwall's training ground and in the 21st minute, after a good spell of possession, went ahead with a great left-foot strike from Emile Oliver to continue his upbeat start to the campaign.
The lead was increased in the 66th minute when top scorer Daeshon Lawrence sent keeper Jakub Przewozny the wrong way from the penalty spot after a handball in the area.
Wanderers’ defence then stood firm to keep the Lions at bay before Darby’s line-up wrapped things up in the last-minute with an excellent third goal.
Winger Max Lott – back in the side following injury – ran 40 yards down the left, outpacing the home defence before shooting into the bottom corner of the net to keep the Whites on a roll.
Wanderers’ next game sees them return to the Toughsheet Community Stadium next Monday afternoon (KO 1pm) to take on Queens Park Rangers and look to avenge a Premier League Cup defeat to the Hoops at the start of the season – the Whites’ only loss so far.
Wanderers: Lomax, Wilkinson, Oliver, O'Neill, Paye, Irwin, Trialist, Leigh, Lawrence, Ritchie, Lott. Substitutes: Shillinglaw, Quirk, Ogboru, Clement, Hopkinson, Lewis.
Meanwhile, Wanderers romped to a 9-0 win over Oldham Athletic in the U17 Professional Development League Cup.
Qunes Fakhy, Alfie Baxter and substitute George Bailey all grabbed doubles with the Whites banging in six second-half goals in a dominant performance at Lostock.
Danny Clarke’s side has now won their first two games in the competition to top Group F.
The young Whites beat Carlisle United 4-2 in their opening fixture and again had to much for a side playing in the EFL Youth Alliance League as they over-powered the Latics.
Sonny Coyne (above) fired Wanderers in front and it was 3-0 by half-time as Oliver Best steered home number two before going off injured and Fakhy ran onto an Alfie Healy pass to add the third.
Wanderers made it four 10 minutes into the second half when midfield man Baxter linked with Coyne to side-foot home and Fakhy then teed up Bailey to score with his first touch after coming off the bench.
Substitute Darren Matojeni rounded off arguably the goal of the game from an Ellis Markham delivery with a far-post finish and it was 7-0 when Fakhy helped himself to another.
Baxter capped an impressive performance with the eighth before Bailey ran clear to ram in number nine in the closing moments to keep the Whites on course for the knock-out rounds.
Wanderers: Davidson, Marshall, Duggan (Dyson 60), Doyle, Lamb, Best (Markham 25), Healy (Matojeni 70), Baxter, Coyne (Bailey 60), Fakhy.
