The U21s' winning start to the season in the Professional Development League came to an end with defeat to Sheffield United at York City’s LNER Community Stadium, writes Simon Marland.
The Whites - looking for a seventh successive league victory to extend their lead at the top of the table - paid for a slow start and the Blades capitalised in the 21st minute when Seth Okyere was allowed space to head home a free-kick.
Four minutes later Wanderers failed to clear their lines and Chris Eadie scrambled home a close range deflected effort.
Julian Darby's side had a good spell of possession in the run-up to the interval but couldn’t crate any clear-cut chances as they looked to halve the deficit.
Looking to get back into it again early in the second half, full-back Fin Wilkinson went close but only a shot from top scorer Daeshon Lawrence late in the game further troubled the home defence as the Whites drew a blank in front of goal for the first time in league and cup.
Wanderers are on the road again next Monday evening when they face Blackburn at the Lancashire FA in a the group stage of the Premier League Cup.
