Bolton Wanderers Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of former Wales international Owain Fôn Williams as the club’s new Head of Goalkeeping.

The appointment is a key part of the enhanced footballing structure being implemented at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, following the arrival of Jimmy Dickinson as Head of Recruitment last month. Fôn Williams will lead the Club’s goalkeeping department, overseeing the development of goalkeepers at all levels.

A highly respected professional, Fôn Williams brings a wealth of experience from a playing career of over 500 senior appearances. He was a key member of the celebrated Wales squad that reached the semi-finals of the UEFA European Championship in 2016.

Before transitioning into coaching, Fôn Williams was a familiar figure in the EFL, most notably making over 180 appearances for Tranmere Rovers. He joins Wanderers from Fleetwood Town, where he has served as Goalkeeping Coach since July 2022.

Sporting Director, Fergal Harkin, said: "This is an important appointment and another vital step in building the high-calibre football structure we are creating at Bolton Wanderers. In Owain, we are bringing in a professional with a solid playing career.

“It is essential that we appoint specialists who are not only experts in their field but also possess the character and drive that aligns with our ambition. Owain's growing reputation as a coach, combined with his playing background, makes him the ideal person to lead and develop our goalkeeping department as we strive to raise standards across the entire footballing operation."

Fôn Williams said: “It’s a huge honour to join a club with the history and stature of Bolton Wanderers. You can feel the ambition around the place and it’s an incredibly exciting project to be a part of. I’m looking forward to working with the Steven, Fergal and the rest of the backroom staff to play my part in bringing success to the club.

“My focus now is to get onto the training pitch and contribute to developing our goalkeepers into a unit that can help win football matches for our supporters.”

Fôn Williams will commence his duties immediately as the club continues its preparations for the upcoming League One campaign.
