Wanderers have completed the signing of Spanish defender Gaizka Larrazabal, with the 28-year-old joining on a free transfer and agreeing a two-year deal at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, subject to international clearance.
The right-back arrives after Wanderers saw off competition for his signature, winning the race to bring him to the Championship ahead of the new season.
Larrazabal becomes Steven Schumacher's sixth signing of the summer, following midfielder David Watson, central defenders Ben Davies and Akin Famewo, full-back Luca Stephenson and winger Kyliane Dong through the door as the head coach continues to shape his squad for the second tier.
Bilbao born, the 28-year-old is a product of the famed Athletic Bilbao academy, coming through at Lezama and featuring for the first team before senior spells with Real Zaragoza and, since 2023, Portuguese top-flight side Casa Pia.
An ever-present for Casa Pia last season, Wanderers supporters will be keen to see the new arrival in action as the countdown to the big kick-off continues.
Speaking to Wanderers TV, Larrazabal said: "It's such a historical team, with great players who played here before, like Fernando Hierro, Nicolás Anelka and Jay-Jay Okocha. It's a big team with a big history and it was quite easy to take the decision.
"I think I'm a player with high speed, strength and good crossing," he added. "I'm always going up and down the field, with a lot of energy and power."
On what he can bring to English football after spells in Spain and Portugal, Larrazabal was clear. "Spanish football is more tactical, maybe, and Portuguese football is also physical, so I think I can read the different situations on the pitch. The speed and the strength are there too, so I can fit in well with this football."
And he had a promise for supporters ahead of the new season. "I'm going to give everything for this shirt, for you guys," he said. "I'm really excited and you're going to see that out on the field.""
