Captain Ricardo Almeida Santos will be available to face Wigan Athletic tonight (Tuesday) after Wanderers won their appeal against his red card at Blackpool.
Almeida Santos was sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity in last Saturday’s game at Bloomfield Road.
A second red card of the season would have landed the Whites’ defender a two-match ban after he was dismissed when conceding a second-half penalty in the 4-1 loss.
However, the FA have confirmed that the Wanderers’ skipper will be available for the Whites’ next two fixtures following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.
According to the FA’s laws of the game, having attempted to play, or challenge for the ball, in conceding the spot-kick, Almeida Santos should have received just a caution.
As a result of the appeal, Almeida Santos will now be available to manager Ian Evatt for the derby game at Wigan and Saturday’s visit of Cambridge United as the Whites aim to maintain their promotion push.
