Women's Preview | Wanderers v Penrith

women's team

Bolton Wanderers Women return to league action in a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday afternoon when facing Penrith FC at the Dreams2Reality Stadium.

Following a free weekend that was used wisely in refreshing ahead of the final seven league fixtures - as well as the upcoming Challenge Cup Final - Wanderers will be looking to continue their perfect winning run in the Division One North

As it stands, the Whites sit top with a six-point cushion over Sunday's opponents, who sit second in the league with 13 wins from their 16 played so far.

It's a run of impressive form, too, for Penrith with just one defeat in all competitions since November - albeit that loss being last time out against Accrington Stanley, being on the wrong side of a battling and tight 3-1 scoreline.

Sunday will be the first team the sides have met in the league this season with just seven games remaining, with Wanderers facing an away trip to this weekend's opponents on Sunday 6th April.

For Wanderers, they head into Sunday afternoon in buoyant mood with memories of their Challenge Cup Semi Final win over Preston North End still fresh in the memory.

Goals from Eboni Bradshaw and Faye Knox were enough to seal a final spot in April's showpiece event, with Wanderers putting their cup antics to one side as they aim to continue their perfect league record.

On the squad front, the Whites have no new injury concerns and also welcome back forward and top goalscorer Jess Lightfoot into contention for this game - with the free weekend without a fixture giving chance for the squad to get an extra week's preparation in ahead of the final run-in.

Myles Smith, Women's manager, said: "We expect them to come with absolutely everything - with lots of energy and aggression.

"There is no doubting that they will play for the full 90-95 minutes of the game, regardless what the scoreline is - and they are going to be a challenge for us.

"But we want that and those type of games, as you don't win titles by playing easy matches and teams just letting you win games.

"Penrith are going to cause us a challenge and some issues, but we've highlighted what they may be and we've worked on that in training. Hopefully we can combat that and get the result."

As always with Wanderers Women's home game, admission is FREE at Atherton Collieries, so we invite supporters to come down and show their support once again this weekend.
