Women's Preview | Wanderers v Ponteland United

Ponteland preview

Bolton Wanderers Women head into Sunday's home FA Cup game with Ponteland (kick-off 2pm) looking to continue their back-to-back wins in the league and push themselves into the next round of the FA Cup.

Wanderers Women have never made it into the first-round proper of the FA, another history making moment for this team since coming under club operations last summer. The team will be keen to make their mark on the competition and hopefully secure their place in the next round.

Last weekend saw Wanderers take all three points on the road at Gigg Lane. Goals from Poppy Wallis and Zara Plano secured the points, and bragging rights for derby day.

It was a victory and performance that embodied grit, passion, and determination, as the Wanderers battled through an intensely physical 90 minutes — compounded by torrential weather — to secure a crucial three points and extend their winning streak.

Having seen off Chester FC and Rutherford Ladies in the qualifying rounds, Wanderers now return home to Victory Park looking to make history and continue their cup run.

In the previous qualifying round, Wanderers made the journey up to the Northeast to face Rutherford Ladies where they would go into the hat in style with a 5-1 victory.

Debut goals from Poppy Wallis, Ella Tweedle and Emmanuella Cambell, along with notches from Charlotte Tyers and Milla Hodson, saw the Whites into the hat for the First Round Proper for the first time in the club’s history.

But in front of them stand a Ponteland side who have started the season in decent form. Sitting third in the table, and having won all their games aside from one draw so far this season in the North East Regional Women’s Premier Football League.

After a series of strong performances and hard-fought victories, Wanderers will look to carry their momentum and determination into the next round, as they continue to make history and showcase their progress under club operations.

For home fixtures at Victory Park this season, admission prices will be introduced - priced at just £3 for adults, £1 concessions and under 8s going free.

This will be through cash-only turnstiles at Victory Park for every home fixture. No card payments will be accepted for entry.
