Player Biography

Ella Tweedle began playing football at around the age of five with YMCA Futsal before joining boys’ side AFC Blackpool a year later.

At eight, she moved into Blackpool FC Girls and later represented both Lancashire County Schoolgirls and Blackpool Fylde District, enjoying national and regional success.

Ella returned to boys’ football at the age of 14 with South Shore before spending a short period with Accrington Stanley the following year. During the close season, she trialled for Bolton Wanderers Under-18s and subsequently joined the club.

At 16, Ella progressed into Wanderers’ reserve team and, after half a season, earned the opportunity to step up into the Women’s first-team squad.

One season in particular stands out among the proudest periods of her career so far. Ella helped win the Lancashire County Cup, scoring twice and providing an assist in a 3-1 final victory, while she also won three competitions with Bolton Wanderers Under-18s.

Her goalscoring contribution was significant, finishing the season with more than 40 goals and earning Player of the Match recognition in one of the finals.

Ella’s route to Wanderers began through friends already at the club who encouraged her to attend a trial.

A fast, aggressive and team-focused striker, Ella identifies her pace as her biggest strength, particularly her ability to get beyond defenders and beat them to the ball.

Her ambitions are to help Wanderers earn promotion and see just how far the team can progress.

Get to know Ella

Lionel Messi was Ella’s footballing idol growing up, with his style of play making him the player she most admired.

Among her favourite memories as a supporter are watching the England Lionesses win the European Championship in both 2022 and 2025.

Away from playing, Ella enjoys spending time with her friends. She also coaches young footballers alongside her own football commitments, running one-to-one and small-group sessions for players aged between five and 15 after college.

When it comes to preparing for a game, any upbeat or house music usually does the job.

And something Wanderers supporters might not expect? Ella doesn’t like chocolate and hasn’t eaten any for more than six years.
