Schumacher | We're Raring To Go

Head Coach Steven Schumacher is “raring to go” ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet League One fixture as Wanderers return to the Toughsheet Community Stadium for the visit of Leyton Orient.

Following back-to-back away games, which saw the Whites secure a 1-0 derby day victory at Wigan Athletic last weekend before Tuesday’s goalless draw at Stevenage, Wanderers are back in front of their home supporters as they take on Richie Wellens’ O’s.

Previewing the contest, Schumacher anticipates a “big test” when Orient travel to BL6.

Schumacher told Wanderers TV: “The lads have recovered. We’ve trained well so we’re raring to go and looking forward to a big test on Saturday.

“It will probably be a different type of game than Tuesday night for sure, they are a team who have got the leading goalscorer in the league, Richie has found another centre forward who is on fire in Dom Ballard, he scored a hat-trick at the weekend against Reading and he should have had five, they are playing well, they score a lot of goals but they concede a fair few as well so we have to be mindful of that.

“When we went down there, it was a good game actually, two teams who played some decent stuff, they surprised us with how they set up down there and I don’t think that there will be as many surprises in this one because they have been playing a more consistent shape recently, they’ve just come off a really good result at home so I don’t think there will be many surprises.

“I thought that we deserved a point down there in the first game, and hopefully we can go one better this time.”

“We’ve got a good defensive record, we’ve conceded the second or third fewest goals in the league and as a team we have really improved on that, that doesn’t mean that we haven’t had good attacking chances either, as we have and the evidence is there, we’ve been guilty of being wasteful at times, goalkeepers against us in certain games at home have made big saves, but that’s on us to more clinical with the chances that we get, we’ll try and focus on being clinical on Saturday.”

Schumacher also provided an update on team news, and he confirmed that forward Marcus Forss will be out of action due to a hamstring injury.

He added: “Unfortunately, Marcus (Forss) has picked up quite a serious hamstring injury, so he’s going to be missing for a little while, it’s not one where it’s just a couple of weeks, it’s more of a high-grade tear so we don’t know exactly what it’s going to be, but we’re without him for the foreseeable future, we wish him well in his recovery as he’s a great lad and it’s not easy when you have one like that.”
